In the Comparative Political Economy, path dependence is an important concept to analyze the insti- tutional change. In the view of historical institutionalism, path dependence is always taken as the reason causing in- stitutional continuity. In fact, path dependence is one of the important types for institutional change, which includes complicated institutional change progress. To analyze the path dependence from the institutional change perspective, has overstepped the type of path dependence in a narrow sense that is based on the punctuated equilibrium, which could explain not only the punctuated equilibrium, but also the gradual transition. This paper makes an analysis on the path dependence that is more open and with more elements, expands the connotations and types of institutional change , realizes the joint of institutional continuity and institutional change, explains the unity of endogenous factors and exogenous factors during institutional change, solves the contradictions between structural level and individual level, and completes the determinism and contingency unified during institutional change. The exploration on the type of path dependence improves the ancestry of the types of institutional change, realizing multiple coexistence.
