Objective To investigate the effect of partial tonsillectomy using low temperature plasma technology on the up-per respiratory tract infections in children. Methods A retrospective analysis was adopted. 80 cases of patients who carried out low-temperature plasma tonsillectomy or adenoidectomy from April 2010 to April 2015 nearly five years in our hospital were selected as observation group. 80 cases of normal healthy children were selected as control group 1, and 80 cases of children who had undergone non-surgical treatment in our hospital for tonsillitis or tonsil hypertrophy were selected as con-trol group 2. Upper respiratory tract infection frequency, tracheobronchitis, pneumonia, laryngitis of them was observed. Results The frequency of upper respiratory tract infection of the observation group were close to that in the control group 1 (t=1.1926, P=0.2348)but lower than that in the control group 2 (t=9.7780, P=0.0000). There were no significant difference on tracheobronchitis, pneumonia, laryngitis between the three groups (P〉0.05). Conclusion Plasma surgery has no impact on the immunity of children but can reduce the risk of upper respiratory tract infections in children with tonsillitis, therefore it is superior to traditional surgery.
