摘 要:美国消费主义使得商品符号价值被夸大,其使用价值被忽视,客观上造成人们的盲目消费倾向。索尔·贝娄《赫索格》中玛德琳深受消费主义影响,其日用品、服装和饮食呈现无节制消费的一面,消费欲望不断膨胀使得她越来越不满足于生活现状。而赫索格沿袭了犹太传统消费伦理:勤俭、节制。玛德琳与赫索格的分道扬镳是美国消费主义与犹太消费伦理的决裂。American consumerism makes the sign value of commodity highly exaggerated, while the use value is ignored, which causes people's blind consumption tendency. Madelyn in Saul Bellow's Herzog is influenced by consumerism. Her daily necessities, clothing and diet have shown uncontrolled consumption desire. This desire inflates unceasingly and she is not satisfied with her situation. While Herzog follows the Jewish consumption tradition: industry and thrift. The reason that Madelyn and Herzog break up is partially due to the differences between American consumerism and Jewish consumption ethics.
