Objective: To compare the efficacy and safety of moxifloxacin and etimicin in the treatment of the gram negative bacterial infection in the lower respiratory tract. Methods: From June 2012 to June 2013, 64 cases with the gram negative bacterial infection in the lower respiratory tract were selected and divided into a moxifloxacin group and an etimicin one with 32 cases each according to the random number method. They were given the intravenous infusion of moxifloxacin at 400 mg/d and etimicin at 100 mg/12 h, and 5~10 days in total. The effective rate, bacterial clearance rate and adverse reactions were compared between the two groups. Results: In the moxifloxacin group and the etimicin one, the effective rates were 87.5%(28/32) and 90.6%(29/32), the bacteriological clearance rates 87.5% and 83.33% and the incidence of adverse reactions 6.25%(2/32) and 3.12%(1/32), respectively. The differences had no statistical significance between the two groups(P〉0.05). Conclusion: Both moxifloxacin and etimicin are the effective and safe antibiotics in the treatment of the gram negative bacterial infection in the lower respiratory tract, which should be selected and applied individually in clinic.
