A development overview of literary works for children of this kind can be acquired by tracking the reading tendency of fan- tasy stories. From the popularity of fantasy in science fictions for children in the New Era, to the self-consciousness of the writing style in the 1990s, and then to the mass introduction of overseas bestselling fantasy stories in the 21st century, fantasy stories for children have become the mainstream of reading. However, what is worrying us is the increasing uniformity of bestselling fantasy sto- ries for children and the lack of thoughts on developing them in the Chinese way. This paper intends to restate the basis on which lo- cal fantasy stories were once widely recognized and the grounds on which they lose their fascination, with warnings against the direct introduction of overseas fantasy works and the overuse of literary gaming, for the purpose of contributing to the local development of fantasy stories for children in China.
