摘　　要：1898年美西战争之后,美国接替西班牙开始了对波多黎各的政治管控。殖民伊始,美国政府在波多黎各实施的美国化运动是一次较为全面的文化、教育和政治殖民,旨在将波多黎各打造成美国殖民拉丁美洲的前站。美国化运动主要是通过英语教育来推行美国文化以期推动波多黎各民众在文化、经济和政治对美国的认可和接纳。对波多黎各宣扬美国文化是20世纪初美国化运动的主要目的,文化作为对外宣传的有力武器强化了美国对波多黎各的管控,揭示了美国赤裸裸的殖民本质。英语教育作为语言输入手段较好地掩盖了美国殖民波多黎各的企图,波多黎各总督、地方教育管理机构、教师协会并未在语言教育规划方面达成一致,这就导致了波多黎各本土英语教育效果的不佳。此外,波多黎各民族主义党此起彼伏的反美运动对20世纪初期的美国化运动构成了强大的冲击,此后波多黎各人民民主党(PPD)的上台为美波关系的改善提供了可能。By winning the war against Spain in 1898,the United States gained political control over Puerto Rico. Aimed at building the island into a strategic outpost in Latin America,it pursued Americanization by conducting a cultural,educational and political colonization. The major tool was to enforce English teaching to spread the American culture. Due to divergence among the governors, teachers ' associations and the educational authorities,there was no consensus on how to educate Puerto Rican children in English,which heavily undermined teaching effects. Local nationalist movements launched anti-Americanization movements in the early 20 th century. Not until the PPD administration was established,there was a remarkable improvement of the U. S.-Puerto Rican relations.
