摘　　要：《藻海无边》是英籍女作家琼·里斯的经典回归之作。在这部作品中,她用自己独特的方式延续并发展了女性哥特小说的元素。一方面,恰当的哥特式环境描写、可怕的梦魇和各种意象的再现生动地展示了哥特式恐怖,成功地凸显了女性哥特小说传统;另一方面,通过对男性形象的多面性描写,让男主人公不同于传统女性哥特小说中的纯"恶棍"。此外,开放式的结尾也赋予了读者无限的想象,引发人们对人类社会的思考。As one of the outstanding writers in 20 th century, Jean Rhys has all along possessed her unique way in writing novels. Wide Sargasso Sea is no exception. The thesis argues that, on the one hand,Rhys＇ full application of gothic elements, vivid description of sorts of nightmares and fears perfectly inherits the traditions of female gothic. On the other hand, she also provides the readers the chance to get an all-round understanding of the complexity of human beings which developed the male images of a pure＂scoundrel＂ in tradition female gothic novel. What＇s more, the open-ending of the novel, which is different from the traditional happy one, makes people spare endless pondering on it.
