Objective To investigate the relationship between carotid arterial stiffness and coronary slow flow (CSF). Methods Ninety patients with similar risk factor of CSF and 90 persons with normal coronary artery (NCA) detected by coronary angiography were recruited. Applying echo tracking (ET) technology, the stiffness parameters of bilateral carotid atherosclerosis including stiffness index (t3), pressure strain elastic modulus (Ep), arterial compliance (AC) and local pulse-wave velocity (PWV) were assessed. Serum levels of high-sensitivity C-reactive protein (Hs-CRP) were measured. Linear regression analysis was used to evaluate the correlation between carotid artery stiffness of CSF patients and Hs-CRP. Results In CSF group, the values of 13, Ep and PWV were significantly higher than that in the NCA group (t = 2.189- 2. 806, P〈 0.05), and AC was lower (t = 3.049, P (0.01 ). The levels of H s-CRP was significantly higher in CSF group versus the NCA (t = 2.481, P〈 0.05 ). The levels of Hs- CRP was positively correlated with β, Ep and PWV in CSF group (r=0.272--0.452,P〈0.01), but negatively correlated with AC (r = -0.293,P%0.05). Conclusion The phenomenon of coronary slow flow has a certain association with the degree of stiffness in carotid artery arteriosclerosis.
