In order to investigate the resistance of the bolted endplate connections to square hollow section columns, eleven connection specimens were tested by static loading tests. Three typical failure modes of steel tubes and bolts were analyzed and the influences of the tube wall thickness, bolt gauge width, bolt diameter and configuration of Hollo- bolt were analyzed. The yield line theoretical computational model was proposed to predict the resistance of such kind of connections. The experimental results show that the failure modes of bolted endplate connections to square hollow section columns are related to the tube wall thickness, bolt gauge width and bolt diameter. The resistance of the connections increases with the increase of the tube wall thickness and bolt gauge width. The bilinear yield model exhibits a close prediction of the resistance from the loads versus vertical displacements of overall connection and tube connection face. The yield moment of similar joints can be predicted through a conversion of the results of test connections. The theoretical computational model was built based on the yield line theory. From a comparison with test results, the suitability of this model was verified.
