摘　　要：从美国对亚洲传统医学的认识、补充替代医学与东洋医学、东洋医学的科学验证、东洋医学教育等方面概述了日本东洋医学的发展现状。认为将东洋医学融入现代医学之中,不仅可以使之在西洋医学的各专业领域间起到桥梁作用,并与针对老龄化社会中饮食文化和健康生活方式的健康促进有着密切的联系。在原有的药物治疗上加以东洋医学的治疗,对于增进患者健康,从而提高医疗质量,削减医疗费用也有重要的作用。此外,将带动传统医学发展,特别是在亚洲引起共同研究传统医学的热潮。This paper described the development status of Oriental medicine, from the aspects of understanding of Asian traditional medicine in America, complementary and alternative medicine and Oriental medicine, scientific validation of Oriental medicine and education of Oriental medicine. Integration of Oriental medicine into modem medicine would assist in integrating various specialties to regard the aging society, food culture and healthy diet with broader perspective, and to promote traditional medicine＇s philosophy of healthy living. This in turn, together with the regular practice of pharmaceutical care, will enhance the quality of patient care, leading to a decrease in the cost of medical care. Furthermore, muhilateral joint research in traditional medicine studies, especially within the Asian countries, should be actively encouraged.
