摘　　要：美国作家威廉·福克纳是一位具有美国南方特色的伟大作家。他的短篇小说《献给艾米丽的玫瑰》是带有哥特元素的南方小说。小说是以美国南北战争为背景,通过他人的回顾间接对艾米丽小姐进行叙述,暗示了艾米丽小姐悲剧的一生。作品从人的外在生存真实困境和内在生存真实困境角度展现了人与自身的冲突,人与社会的冲突,人与现实环境的冲突,人与观念的冲突。American writer William Faulkner is a great writer with southern traits. There are Gothic elements in his short story A Rose for Emily which sets in American Civil War period. The story indirectly narrates the life of Miss Emily by people＇s reminiscence and implies the tragic life of Miss Emily. The story displays the conflicts between man and self, man and society, man and environment and man and outlook from the perspectives of outer life plights and inner life plights.
