Objective To investigate the correlation between pulse pressure and the risk of coronary artery disease(CHD) in patients with hypertension. Methods A total of 35 hypertensive patients with CHD(CHD group) and35 hypertensive patients without CHD(non-CHD group) who were admitted to our hospital from April 2012 to April2013 were enrolled as subjects. Logistic regression analysis was performed to investigate the correlation between pulse pressure and CHD risk. Results Systolic blood pressure, pulse pressure, and age were positively correlated with the risk of CHD, while diastolic blood pressure was negatively correlated with the risk of CHD. A 5-mm Hg increment in systolic blood pressure was associated with a 1.61-fold increase in CAD risk, a 5-mm Hg increment in pulse pressure was associated with a 4.26-fold increase in CAD risk, a 10-year increment in age was associated with a 1.09-fold increase in CAD risk, and a 5-mm Hg increment in diastolic blood pressure was associated with a 1.04-fold reduction in CAD risk.Pulse pressure was the most important influential factor for CHD. Conclusion Pulse pressure is an important influential factor for CHD in hypertensive patients.
