Objective: Most researches show that negative life events have great impact on the mental health of adolescents, but how and when do these events work are little reported. This study investigated the mediating effect of coping on the relationship between negative life events and mental health as well as the moderating effect of psychological resilience. Methods: With the method of cluster sampling, 362 freshmen in a medical university of Anhui Province were selected by using Adolescent Self-Rating Life Events Check List( ASLEC), Coping Style Questionnaire(CSQ), the Resilience Scale for Chinese Adolescent(RSCA), and Symptom Checklist-90(SCL-90). Results: The study has three findings as follows:(1) After controlling gender and family economic status, negative life events could positively predict medical freshmen's mental health.(2) Immature-coping and hybridcoping styles play a partial mediate role between negative life events and mental health, but mature-coping style doesn't reveal a significantly mediate effect.(3) Psychological resilience moderates the effect of negative life events on immature-coping style. Conclusion: Both mediating and moderating effects exist in the association between the impact of negative life events and medical freshmen's mental health.
