The literature immediately after 9 /11 attacks is mainly the narration of the survivors and witnesses, revealing the trauma brought about by the terrorist attacks. With the passage of time, writers from both the U. S. and the Third World attempt to explore the reasons for the terrorist attacks and their impact on American culture as well as the Third World culture. The American criticism on 9 /11 literature also witnesses a change from the indulgence in trauma in the early period to the abandoning of American innocence myth and to a close scrutiny of the American culture in the later period. Many critics, from the perspective of post-colonialism,expose the falsity of American innocence myth and the neo-Orientalism brought about by the terrorist attacks. 9 /11 literature and its criticism demonstrate that only by abandoning the innocence myth that the Americans believe in,can people have a more objective understanding of the terrorist attacks.
