摘　　要：威廉·索姆赛特·毛姆以犀利的笔触创作了大量刻画鲜明人性的短篇小说。作为爱德华时代雅俗共赏的大家,毛姆有着挥之不去的绅士情结;受制于文化环境和个人成长历程,这一情结在他的作品中一直是矛盾的。《午餐》讲述了青年作家与中年妇女共进午餐的故事。文章拟从绅士情结的角度,解读男主人公对绅士身份的抉择,探寻折射在毛姆自身矛盾的绅士情怀及他的理想绅士观。William Somerset Maugham creates abundant short novels depicting distinctive characters with his keen insight. As a great master of the Edwardian era who appeals to both refined and popular taste,Maugham is featured by his gentlemanship complex in his works. Due to the specific cultural environment and personal experience,he is always struggling in his mind.The Luncheon describes an impoverished young writer having lunch with his woman reader. This paper,from the perspective of Maugham＇s gentlemanship complex,is devoted to analyze the hero＇s choice of gentleman and further probe into Maugham＇s contradictory complex as well as the ideal gentleman in his mind.
