摘　　要：1864年1月,基督教北长老会传教士狄考文抵达登州,随即与传教士倪维思夫妇在登州城北一座破观音庙办起了登州蒙养学堂,招收了6名从未读过书的男孩。1872年,狄考文在蒙养学堂的基础上扩大校舍增加课程,称前3年为备斋,后6年为正斋。1876年,借蒙养学堂首届毕业生毕业之际,学堂＂取以文会友之意＂,正式定名为＂文会馆＂,英文校名为＂登州书院＂。文会馆第一批学生毕业（学制12年）,最初的六名学生仅有3人毕业：邹立文、李青山、李秉义。In January 1864 Calvin Wilson Matteer,a missionary of American Presbyterian Mission(North),arrived at Dengzhou and soon established the Boy's Boarding School with Mr.and Mrs.Nevius in an old Guanyin Temple in north Dengzhou City and recruited 6 boys who had never read books.In 1872 on the basis of the Boy's Boarding School Calvin Wilson Matteer enlarged the school and added courses,calling the first 3 years as the preparatory school and the next 6 years the formal school.In 1876 when the first group of graduates at the Boy's Boarding School commenced,the school officially named it as Dengzhou Wenhui Guan in Chinese and Tengchow College in English,the former of which meant making friends on literature.When the first group of the students at Tengchow College graduated(with a school system of 12 years),among the first six students only 3 finished school:ZOU Liwen,LI Qingshan,and LI Bingyi.Calvin Wilson Matteer declared the three students as the first graduating class of this 'college.' In 1884 American Presbyterian Mission(North)authorized Tengchow College to offer college education.
