Objective To investigate short-term clinical efficacy and safety in bilateral total hip arthroplasty( THA) between same or different stages. Methods Sixty-four patients who underwent bilateral THA were divided into two groups according to the ASA grade. Group A with 34 patients were implemented simultaneous bilateral THA, group B (30 cases)were implemented with staging bilateral THA. The perioperative clinical indicators and complications oc-currence of both groups were compared. Results All the patients were followed up for 12-18 months. There were no significant differences between the two groups in operative time and intraoperative blood loss ( P〉0. 05 ); length of stay, off-bed ambulation time and hospital costs of group A were significantly lower than the group B, the difference was statistically significant (P〈0. 05). There was no significant difference in the complication incidence rate of two groups (P〉0. 05). Postoperative function of two groups were all improved obviously(P〈0. 05), but there was not significant difference between two groups ( P〉0. 05 ) . Conclusions Concomitant bilateral THA is safe and effec-tive, saving medical resources, but the patient′s body condition should be allowed to control the perioperative man-agement.
