Spot network has high power supply reliability, beneficial to distributed energy resource(DER) integration. However, there will be reverse power in MV feeders if amounts of DER are injected into spot network. Existing reverse power protection cannot be used in this situation and this is a limitation for DER integration. According to difference between DER outputs and faults in spot network, a new reverse power protection is proposed. It is based on current sequence component and its power direction. Electric parameter characteristics are analyzed for various short-circuit faults occurring in different locations. Status difference between fault and normal operations with reverse power can be determined with positive and negative sequence current variation, and fault location can be determined with sequence power direction. This method performs well under fault condition and can overcome limitation for DER integration. Value setting rule and action zone of power is discussed. Simulation results confirm that high supply reliability and high penetration of DER can be achieved simultaneously with the proposed method in this paper.
