A pot experiment was con ducted to study the effects of spraying abscisic acid (ABA) on growth and cadmium accumulation in accumulator plant Stellaria media under cadmium stress. The results showed that spraying ABA improved the biomass and photosynthetic pigment content of S. media. With increase in ABA spraying concentrations, the biomass and photosynthetic pigment content of S. media increased, but the cadmium content, cadmium accumulation, antioxidant enzyme (SOD, POD and CAT) activity, soluble protein content and soluble sugar content of S. media increased at first and then decreased over time. When ABA concentration was 15 mg L-1, the cadmium accumulation amounts in root, shoot and whole plant of S. media reached the maximums of 94.54, 235.93 and 330.47ug plant-1, respectively, which increased by 19.07% (P 〈 0.05), 49.45% (P 〈 0.05) and 39.28% (P 〈 0.05) compared with the respective control. Therefore, spraying ABA, especially at concentration of 15 mg L-1, promoted the growth of S. media and increased cadmium accumulation ability in S. media.
