试释“了鸟船”

摘　　要：《太平寰宇记》《舆地纪胜》和《读史方舆纪要》等史籍中都提到了福建水上居民所乘的一种"了鸟船"。因为对其含义不甚了解,崇祯年间的《闽书》以及当代一些论著都将"了鸟"形讹为"丫鸟"、"丫乌"。"了鸟"的准确写法应为"鸼舟了"。"鸼"字强调行船迅速,而"舟了"字强调船身狭长。"鸼(舟了)"的准确含义为"一种船身狭长、行动迅速的小船。"In the historical records like Taiping Huanyu Ji, Yudi Jisheng and Dushi Fangyu Jiyao, the authors mentioned that boat dwellers in Fujian Province used a kind of boat by the Chinese name ＂了鸟 ＂（Liao Niao）. Without much knowledge of it, The Book of Min in the period of Emperor Chongzhen of the Ming Dynasty and some contemporary books mistook the Chinese spelling as ＂ 丫 鸟 ＂（Ya Niao）, ＂ 丫 乌 ＂（Ya Wu）. Actually, the correct Chinese spelling of this boat should be ＂鸼 舟了 ＂（Diao Liao）. ＂鸼 ＂（Diao） emphasizes the fast speed of the boat while ＂舟了 ＂（Liao） means that the boat is long and narrow. So the correct meaning of ＂鸼（舟了）＂is ＂a long, narrow, fast-moving boat＂.
