摘　　要：＂One of the Sweden＇s Oldest Cities,yet one of the most dynamic.Meet the past,present and future in a youthful city older than Sweden itself.＂它曾是瑞典最古老的城市之一,如今却成了最有活力的城市之一。乌普萨拉,这座充满朝气的城市,其悠久的历史比瑞典本身更为久远。在这里,你可以品味过去、体验当下、展望未来——乌普萨拉城市宣传册封面上的这段话,用来形容这座城市实在恰如其分。Uppsala is an ancient yet dynamic city.Some people say that the early Uppsala may well be where Sweden 'started'.In this city,youcan learn stories wherever you go.The Uppsala Cathedral.with a history as old as the city of Uppsala,startedconstruction in 1272,got suspended due to the spread of the Black Plaque,and was completed in 1435.In the Cathedral lies the stone statue and stone tomb of the Swedish king Gustav Vasa,and the king himself was also buried underneath this Cathedral.This king,now regarded as the founder of the modern Sweden,advocated the suppression of the church's religious power and abolished the church lawin his reign,thus turning Sweden into a Protestant country.The Cathedral was built in the plain and delicate gothic style,featuring many chapels,an extremely high dome,a huge pipe organ,and colored glasses allowing the sun rays to shine through.Compared with the crowded Westminster Abbey in Britain,it's apparently more spacious,with all kinds of seats for people to sit and enjoy a quiet afternoon.Here in Uppsala,there is an air of coziness to its very soul.No matter what mood you are in or what stress you are under,a walk on the street will make you relaxed and comfortable,feeling tranquil at heart and full of strength.
