都市异乡客的幸福追寻——论《嘉莉妹妹》对移民的价值取向书写

摘　　要：本文结合嘉莉妹妹的三点移民特质,探究嘉莉在不同人生阶段的价值取向以及为之付出的代价。对移民家庭的创伤记忆、传统意义上家园感的缺失以及道德监督的缺位共同铸就了嘉莉的幸福定位,使他在人生抉择的重大关头做出不问手段但求成功的价值选择。为了生存、快乐和自我实现,嘉莉付出了沉重的代价。在她异化了的幸福方向标指引下,嘉莉越界了社会传统道德,丧失了自己的本真,最终导致生命意义的虚无感。对移民价值取向的探究表明了德莱塞对美国社会转型期人文危机的深层忧患。Starting from an analysis of sister Carrie＇s three distinctive immigrant traits which prove to be decisive in her subsequent value choice,the paper traces her pursuit of happiness and the prices she paid for them.At every critical turning point of Carrie＇s adventure,it is the traumatic memory of the poor immigrant life,combined with the absence of a traditional sense of family as well as moral supervision that has pushed her resolutely to an＂end for end＇s sake＂value orientation and she continued on her road from a city outsider to an urban celebrity.Carrie paid dearly for material acquisition,spiritual fulfillment and selfactualization,she went beyond the border of conventional moralities,lost her true self and only got a sense of nihility in return.The exploration of immigrants＇ value orientation demonstrates Dreiser＇s humanistic concern for American society at the turn of 20^（th） century.
