摘　　要：美国作家霍桑的作品在中国的译介活动始于20世纪初,现今已有百余年的历史。通过分析霍桑文学作品A Wonder Book for Girls and Boys以及短篇小说从1913年至1949年在中国的译介,论述霍桑文学作品在译介过程中文学性的接受与隐匿,探索霍桑作品在中国被选择性接受的实质缘由,展示出中国读者最早对于霍桑作品理解的多面性和矛盾性。In China, the translation of American writer Hawthorne＇s works began in the early 20th centu- ry, and by far, it has been carried on for over one hundred years. Based on Hawthorne＇s literary works A Won- der Book for Girls and Boys and the translations of his short stories from 1913 to 1949 in China, this paper il- lustrates the reception and hiddenness of literariness in translating Hawthorne＇s literary works, explores the reason why Hawthorne＇s works have been selectively accepted, and presents the Chinese readers＇ multi -face- ted and contradictory understanding of Hawthorne＇s works in the earliest time.
