Indispensible and significant as Native American young adult fiction is to American young adult fiction and American literature, it has long been marginalized and deprived of the attention it deservires due to deliberate suppression and neglect of American mainstream culture. With the unremitting effort and persistent struggle of the Native American writers and young adult novelists, however,Native American young adult fiction expands and develops as continuously and formidably as the weed grows in the barren wild in North America. With the purpose of expounding concisely and fully the history, and features of Native American young adult fiction, this essay on the one hand, from the synchronic anglej illustrates its development from scratch to the current status, from being marginalized to being noticed by mainstream readers; and on the other hand, it aims to discover its prominent features and significance in different periods from a diachronic perspective.
