英属时期新加坡华人宗乡会馆的社会职能

摘　　要：英属时期大量华人从中国迁往新加坡,在当地形成了以华人为主的社会。在华人社会内部,普通民众面临着生老病死与子女教育等问题。殖民政府在自由主义思想的影响下,对华人采取了自由放任的态度,不太出面解决民众面临的问题,而宗乡会馆通过创办学校、开设医院、开展互助活动,方便了华人群体,有效地推动了民间社会事业的发展。与此同时,民间社会事业的发展在某种程度上又肯定了宗乡会馆存在与发展的必要性,是会馆发展和壮大的动力之一。During the period of British colony,a large group of Chinese moved to Singapore from China and formed a society with Chinese as principal part. However,Chinese society faces many problems such as illness,old age,children education and so on. The colonial government adopted a laissez- faire attitude to Chinese society. Given this,the township hall and clan association undertook the social responsibility. They established schools,hospitals,carried out mutual help activities,effectively promoted the development of the cause of the civil society. Meanwhile,the development of civil society to some extent showed that it was necessary to save and develop Chinese township hall.
