Objective :To explore the possible pathogenic mechanisms of CD8^+ CD28^-T cells in patients with chronic urticaria (CU). Methods:The levels of serum anti-IgE antibody and anti- Fc^R I antibody were measured by ELISA and the population of CD3^+ , CD4^+ , CD8^+ , CD8^+ CD28^- and CD4^+ CD25 ^+ T cells in peripheral blood was detected by flow cytometry in 83 patients with CU and 64 healthy controls. Results:Of the 83 patients with CU, 23 (27.7%) was positive for anti-IgE antibody and 31 (37.3%) was positive for anti-FcεR I antibody. The percentage of CD8^+ and CD8^+ CD28^-T cells in peripheral blood of patients with CU was lower than those in healthy controls (P 〈 0. 05 ). The proportion of CD4^+ / CD8^+ and CD4^+CD25^+ T cells in patients with CU was higher as compared to those in healthy controls (P 〈 0.05 ). Conclusion:The abnormal proportion of CD8^+CD28^- and CD4^+ CD25^+ T cells in peripheral blood of patients with CU may be involved in the pathogenesis underlying CU.
