摘  要:虽然张爱玲坦言《半生缘》的故事结构脱胎自美国作家约翰·马宽德的《普汉先生》,但是通过对原作的创造性改写,张爱玲将《普汉先生》对上流阶层无爱婚姻的讨论转移到对中国旧式家庭与夹层时代苍凉宿命的思考,将亨利扼杀记忆的讽刺叙事妙化为惘然感人的"诗性回忆"。因此,这部植根于本土传统的改写作品突破了单纯的仿袭,在赓续"张味"书写的同时也蕴涵了张爱玲独特的悲悯情怀。Notwithstanding Eileen Chang's personal statement that Half a Lifelong Romance owes its genesis to the American writer J. P. Marquand's H. M. Pulham, Esquire, she navigates through the transfer- ence of artistic vision the task of creative rewriting. Chang replaces Marquand's portrayal of the upper-class marriage of convenience with her contemplations about the conservative Chinese family and the indifferent Fate, and steers the narrative away from Henry Pulham's stifling the long-lost memory towards her evocation of the poignant poetic memory. The Chinese culture-bound rewriting, so to speak ,is far more than a copycat and constitutes a continuation of Chang's literary exploration wherein lurks her unique compassion for the underdogs.
