Objective To observe the value of bidirectional barbed absorbable suture (QuillTM SRS suture) in double-ring breast reduction mastopexy. Methods A total of 17 cases of breast ptosis were enrolled in this study who were subject to continuous suturing on double-circle incision designed preoperatively with QuillTM SRS suture (QuillTM SRS group). Previous 21 cases were subject to interrupted suture with conventional nonbarb absorbable filament (conventional suture group). The suture time, wound healing and scar appearance in 6-month follow up were observed and compared between two groups. Results The time of suture and wound healing in QuillTM SRS group was significantly shorter than that in conventional suture group (P〈0.05 for both). Moreover, the scar appearance of QuillTM SRS group was better than that of conventional suture group in 6-month follow up. Conclusion The use of QuillTM SRS suture in periareolar mastopexy can significantly decrease the suture time, improve the long-term quality of high-tension scars by more effective tension unloading, and reduce the incidence of hyperplasia of scar. QuillTM SRS suture can be widely applied in clinical treatment as a new suture material.
