HBCD is a type of brominated flame retardants which is widely used.At the same time,it is a kind of persistent organic pollutants with highly biological accumulated toxicity. It can accumulate, migrate and transformate in the environment for a long time, and now it has become a kind of widespread pollutant. To explore the toxic effects of Hexabromocyclododecane(HBCD)on marine copepods, this research studyed the effects of HBCD exposure on the acute toxicity, metamorphosis rate, metamorphosis time, maturation time and fecundity of Oithona similis.Acute toxicity determined the mortality rate directly.Metamorphosis rate, metamorphosis time and maturation time are normally known that reveal the propagation rate of species. The results showed that 96h-LC50 of HBCD to O.similis was 1.752mg·L-1;The time required for metamorphosis, first spawning and oocyst development, the metamorphosis rate and the percentage of gravid females were affected significantly by HBCD;Different concentrations of HBCD did not cause a significant impact on the fecundity.Studies revealed that the acute toxic effect of HBCD was relatively low,but it showed a significant toxicity on the reproduction and development of O.similis which means long term toxicity exist on this organism.HBCD can cause the reduce of copepods and accumulate in predator like salmon, tuna, jellyfish, maybe humans are harmed after the long term accumulation. This could provide a scientific basis for assessing the potential ecological risks caused by HBCD.
