摘　　要：【目的】探讨创刊主编在创办学术期刊中的重要作用,以期对国内英文期刊的创办和快速发展提供参考。【方法】结合办刊实践,总结了创刊主编在创办新刊中所做的工作以及具体实践方式,并为新刊遴选主编提出了建议。【结果】主编在创办新刊时,在建立编委团队、遴选优秀文章、策划前沿专题、提高审稿质量等方面具有重要的作用。【结论】新创办期刊要切实发挥主编的责任和义务,才能保证新刊的正常发展,迅速得到学术界的认可。[Purposes] This study aims at investigating the role and responsibility of editors-in-chief（ EIC） for an academic journal with specific focus on a newly launched English journal Photonics Research which is published by Chinese Laser Press. It will provide additional insights into the launching and development of newEnglish journals in China. [Methods]Based on the establishment and practical work of Photonics Research,the responsibilities and actions of EIC were summarized. Some suggestions on the selection of EIC of newjournals were proposed. [Findings] It is found that a qualified EIC plays a significant role in establishing the editorial board,such as soliciting high impact articles,organizing feature issues,enhancing the peer reviewquality,etc. [Conclusions] For a newly established journal,it still needs to further develop the role of EIC and improve the international influence of journals.
