Propanediolpoly ethers(PPE) and triethanolamineoleate (TO) were selected as the additives of water-based lubricant so as to improve the tribological properties. The film-forming property of PPE aqueous solution and the mixed aqueous solution of PPE and TO was analyzed by nano scale film thickness measuring instrument of NGY-6.Results indicate that both aqueous solutions exhibit good film-forming abilities. The anti-wear and friction reducing, extreme pressure, and stability performances were studied with the help of four-ball tribometry, the wear scar diameter of the steel balls was measured, and the steel ball surfaces were analyzed by 3D surface topography instrument. Results show that both of the two kinds of aqueous solutions have good performances in anti-wear and friction reducing. The tribological behaviors of PPE aqueous solution are further improved by the inclusion of TO, the non-seizure load is raised and the extreme pressure performance are also inproved. Overall, PPE and TO additives have a good synergistic effect in lubrication, which have good prospect in engineering application.
