Objective To study the effect of health education of patients with coloreetal cancer with peripheral inserted central venous catheter (PICC) by using mind mapping. Methods A total of 109 colorectal cancer patients with PICC were randomly divided into control group and observation group. Patients in the control group were given health education by traditional methods; patients in observation group designed and applied mind mapping to health education. The effectiveness and satisfaction of health education were evaluated at the time of discharge. Self-management of the catheter and the incidence of PICC related complications were evaluated during the next course of re admission. Results The knowledge of caring PICC, the ability of self-management and the satisfaction of health education of the patients in the observation group were significantly higher than that of the control group (P 〈0.05), the incidence of catheter-related complications in observation group was significantly lower than that of the control group( P 〈0. 01). Conclusions Early health education using mind mapping for colorectal cancer patients with PICC can significantly improved the knowledge and self-management ability of the tube, reduced the incidence of catheter- related complications, and ensured the safety of the carrying catheter.
