With the 937 households' survey data from counties with giant panda habitat in Sichuan Province, this paper evaluated the degree of households' dependence on natural resources and its impact factors, as well as the comparison analysis of natural resources dependence degree between different types of households. The results showed that the degree of natural resources dependence in terms of food, energy and income were 46.32 %, 37.67 % and 27.91% respectively. Households who owned more livestock and larger farmland were prone to have higher dependence on food and in- come, while who owned larger forestland area were prone to have higher dependence on energy. Households who had lower educational level tend to have higher dependence on food and energy, while who had poor health status tend to rely more on food and income. Farmers mainly relied on agricul- ture and forest usually had higher dependence on natural resources, and the means of livelihood were prone to exert higher pressure on giant pandas and the habitat conservation. As a result, community work should be strenghtened for the future giant panda protection and management, so as to effec- tively guide and help local farmers to rely more on non - agricultural and more diversified means of livelihood, and reduce pressure on natural resourc- es protection in giant panda habitats.
