Immobilized microorganisms were used for the advanced treatment of landfill leachate to investigate the effects of hydraulic retention time(HRT),dissolved oxygen(DO) and influent pH on nitrogen removal,as well as the reasonable position of immobilized microorganisms,by comparing the extent of nitrogen removal from the anaerobic and aerobic effluents. The results indicate that when immobilized microorganisms are used to treat anaerobic effluents, the optimal HRT is 72 h,DO is 5 mg·L^-1 and the influent pH is from 7.5 to 8.5,whereas for aerobic effluents, the optimal HRT is 84 h,DO is 5 mg·L^-1 and the influent pH is from 7.5 to 8.5.When treating anaerobic and aerobic effluents, the average ammonia removal rate achieved was 63.8% and 92.6%,respectively.It seems more reasonable to include the treatment system using immobilized microorganisms after the aerobic treatment,as it is more conducive to nitrogen removal by immobilized microorganisms, effectively solving the problem of efficient denitrification of landfill leachate.
