Cemented sand and gravel (CSG) material is a new type of dam material, has broad prospects for development. Water con- sumption is an important factor affecting the strength of cemented sand and gravel material. In this paper, the compressive strength test was conducted to analyze the effect of water consumption on the compressive strength of cemented sand and gravel material. The results show that the optimal water consumption increases with the increase of CSG material content, and increases with the increase of sand ratio, the optimal water consumption was 85 - 125 kg/m3. The optimal water-binder ratio decreases with the increase of the dosage of CSG material, and decreases with the increase of the age. The optimal water-binder ratio was 0.95 - 1.35. The effect of water con- sumption on compressive strength is second only to cement consumption. In the construction process, the importance of water should be fully aware of. As an important parameter of CSG material, the strength can be exerted and the quality of the project can be ensured.
