摘　　要：教养(manners)这一研究角度为审视埃德蒙·伯克文化观与英国文学之间的互动提供了无限可能性。自伯克以降,擅长运用教养题材的英国文学家层出不穷,而且教养不仅关乎人们的日常言谈举止和礼貌风度,更关乎国家的治理、社会风气的养成,以及社会秩序的维持和演进。鉴于伊格尔顿在讨论伯克文化观念内涵时只是捎带地提及少数英国文学作品,我们有理由从较多的英国文学作品入手,进一步探索它们跟伯克文化思想之间互动的轨迹。The perspective of manners provides an infinite number of possibilities for the inquiry into the interaction between Edmund Burke＇s idea of culture and English literature. Ever since Edmund Burke, there have emerged in an endless stream men of letters who excel in treating the subject of manners, which not only has to do with grace and politeness, with the way in which people talk and behave in everyday life, but also with the maintenance and evolution of the social order, as well as the way the state is governed and social modes are developed. While discussing Edmund Burke＇s idea of culture, Terry Eagleton has mentioned only a small number of works of English literature. We therefore need to examine more literary works so as to further explore the trajectory of their interaction with Burke＇s thoughts on culture.
