Objective To investigate the effects of overweight, obesity and sugar-sweetened beverage(SSB)consumption on serum uric acid (SUA)in adult residents of Wuhai, Inner Mongolian. Methods A total of 5 995 subjects were enrolled in this study using multiple stage stratified cluster sampling. Multivariate logistic regression analysis was conducted for data analysis. Results The SUA levels and detection rates of hyperuricemia (HUA) in overweight group and obesity group were significantly higher than those in normal weight group( all P 〈 0. 05 )both in males and females. Higher SSB intake and intake frequency increased the SUA levels in males ( all P 〈 0. 05 ) and the former with a linear trend ( Ptrend = 0. 010) ; On the contrary, higher SSB intake and intake frequency decreased the SUA levels in females (all P 〈 0. 05 ). Multiple logistic regression analysis showed that overweight and obesity enhanced the risk of HUA both in males and females. There was an interaction between overweight/obesity and SSB intake on SUA level ( all Pinteraction 〈 0. 05 ) . Conclu- Overweight or obesity are the independent risk factors of HUA. SSB intake could increase SUA level in males. Overweight or obesity with higher beverage intake couht significantly enhance the risk of HUA.
