摘　　要：菲利普·罗斯在长期创作实践中努力摆脱犹太身份束缚,推出的大量佳作充分展示了他逐步成为美国主流文化代言人之一的奋斗历程。他从早期的叛逆、对犹太传统文化弊端的抨击,到以多元共存的心态加以包容和回归,其态度发生了根本性转变。特别在"9·11事件"之后的创作中,罗斯已超越族裔文化的界限,转向新现实主义,形成自己的特色,着重以自我反省、重建历史的手法揭示国内外政治局势对个体的影响和探索悲剧的根源。In his writing Philip Roth always tries to break the limitations of his Jewish identity. All his novels show how he becomes one of the spokesmen in American culture. His attitude changes from early rebellion and sharp attacks at Jewishness, to enjoyment of multicultural characteristics. After the ＂9.11 tragedy＂, Roth with his unique style breaks the limitation of Jewish culture and＇ turns to neo-realism to explore causes for such tragedies through self-reflection and reconstruction of history.
