Based on the experimental results of differential thermal analysis, tensile stress and scanning electron microscope characterization on the rubber oil pipes and pipe fittings for cars before and after soaking in the gasoline, methanol gasoline, dimethyl carbonate (DMC) gasoline and DMC-methanol gasoline, the effects of methanol, dimethyl carbonate (DMC) and gasoline on the swelling of NBR ruber were discussed, and the swelling mechanisms of NBR ruber in the methanol gasoline and dimethyl DMC- methanol gasoline were proposed: a) the nitrogen elements of polar groups in the NBR rubber forming hydrogen bonds with the hydrogen elements in methanol; b) the nitrogen elements of NBR rubber polar groups adsorbing or absorbing methanol molecules; c) methanol molecules emitting effects on the polymers with lower molecular weight in NBR rubber; d) the interaction of DMC with methanol forming the new molecules group consisting of a DMC molecule and several methanol molecules by hydrogen bonds, which weakening the polarity of DMC, resulting in the effect of DMC on the swelling of NBR rubber is obviously smaller in the DMC- methanol gasoline than that in the DMC gasoline without methanol.
