从《天使不敢涉足的地方》看福斯特的双重文化身份

摘　　要：E.M.Forster是20世纪上半叶英国最重要的小说家之一,《天使不敢涉足的地方》(Where Angles Fear to Tread)是福斯特的第一部小说,也是福斯特的第一部"意大利小说"。通过对人物形象、环境描写的解读,揭示蕴含在作品中福斯特的双重文化身份,即福斯特在以意大利文化为一种参照体系,揭示出英国中产阶级精神层面的困顿、贫瘠的同时,显现出一种对英国本土民族和文化的优越感。E. M. Forster was one of the most important novelists in the first half of twentieth century in England. Where Angles Fear to Tread is his first novel as well as his first Italian Novel. By a careful analysis of the scenery and character, this paper tries to expound Foster＇s dual cultural identity. On the surface, Italian culture plays the role as a frame of reference from which the spiritual problems of English middle-class is revealed, however, Forster diaplays a sense of superiority of his nation and culture.
