摘　　要：在严歌苓直接用英语创作的第一部小说《赴宴者》中,通过人物有限聚焦和自由直接引语的使用,读者与主人公董丹——一个冒充记者的"宴会虫"——一起认识了一个腐败的惊人的现代中国社会。故事里似乎无处不在的虚假与欺骗和它令人颓丧的结局不仅令董丹、很可能也会令读者陷于失望之中。在严歌苓迄今出版的小说中,这部作品在讽刺的力度和广度上都堪称空前。将现代中国通过这样一个故事、以这样的方式介绍给英语读者,隐含作者创作的伦理立场值得推敲。A limited focus on her characters and the use of direct quotations in her first novel, The Banquet Bug, written in English by Geling Yan, help the reader, along with Dong Dan, the protagonist, a＇ banquet bug＇ posing as a journalist, find out about a surprisingly corrupt modern Chinese society. Falsity and deception, present everywhere in the story, as well as its depressing end, may not only lead Dong Dan but also the reader to despair. Of all the novels published by Geling Yah, this work is unprecedented in its dynamics and its breadth. It is worth looking at the ethical position in which such a story is introduced to the English readership in such a manner.
