摘　　要：劳伦斯虽不是达尔文进化思想的自觉践行者,但由于诸多因素,如一战的创伤、紧张的婚姻关系、每况愈下的身体状况、备受重创的写作生涯等,劳伦斯1919—1922期间的作品被打上了达尔文主义的烙印。本文以劳伦斯转折时期的代表性作品《狐》为例,探究这一作品中所展现的达尔文元素,分析达尔文思想如何从塑造人物形象、构建人物关系、推动情节发展这三个方面在《狐》中得以体现。The forces that influence Lawrence＇ s transition from ＂marriage＂ fictions to ＂leadership＂ fictions are varied： the trauma of World War I, difficulties of his marriage, his failing health and loss of readership. Lawrence＇ s lack of fortune in natural selection as a man and writer made him apply aspects of the Darwinian doctrine in and to his writing, though Lawrence himself did not write consciously by the theory of Darwinism. His typical novella, The Fox, demonstrates the recurrence of ev- olutionary elements, with Darwinism affecting the development of the story, the characterization and relationships between character_
