Libraries Transforming Communities of the American Library Association challenged the concept of "user-centered" services that libraries used to adopt as a means to improve service quality, and further introduced the idea of "turning outward" that encourages libraries to be actively informed by and involved in the holistic developments of communities and campuses. Public libraries can utilize the "turning outward" method and imagine new ways to get involved in communities so as to promote community development. University libraries can also use the "turning outward" as a tool to move libraries' communication style into a more interactive and engaging one. The concept and methodology of "turning outward", alongside the redefinition of library services and libraries' roles spurred by the libraries transforming communities, have brought important lessons for Chinese libraries.
