Effects of Embeddedness,Accessibility and Antecedent Animacy on Chinese EFL Learners' Acquisition of English Relative Clauses

摘  要:以英语水平为协变量,通过协方差分析发现:1.嵌入性和可及性对关系从句的理解和产出均产生显著的主效应,而生命性对关系从句的习得不产生影响;2.嵌入性、可及性和生命性在关系从句的理解中均产生了双向交互作用,而在关系从句产出中,只有可及性和生命性存在交互作用;3.感知困难假说在两项任务中都得到支持,但名词短语可及性层级假设和主宾等级假设只在产出任务中成立,在理解任务中不完全成立;4.英语水平对关系从句的理解和产出均有显著影响。With English proficiency being a covariant factor, a One-Way ANCOVA is conducted. Major findings are listed as follows: 1 ) Embeddedness and accessibility have significant main effects on both comprehension and production of relative clauses, while animacy has no significant effect on RC acquisition. Furthermore, embeddedness is the main factor affecting the comprehension of RCs, while accessibility is the main factor affecting RC production. 2) There are significant interaction effects between accessibility, embeddedness, and animacy on RC comprehension, while only accessibility and animacy exert a significant interaction effect on RC production. 3 ) Results in the two tasks lend support to Perceptual Difficulty Hypothesis. Noun Phrase Accessibility Hierarchy Hypothesis and Perceptual Difficulty Hypothesis are valid in the production task, and are partly supported in the comprehension task. 4) English proficiency has significant effects on both RC comprehension and production.
