To classify social skills of college students and to assess influence of education levels and gender difference, 699 college students were assessed using the Chinese University-student Social Skill Inventory(CHUSSI). We evaluated students' social skills in corresponding to educational levels and gender difference using unordered multinomial model. The results are following: The social skills of college students could be classified preliminarily into 5 categories: highly functional type, adaptive type, solitary type, outgoing typeand non-adaptive type. Highly functional students had higher scores in five-dimensional social skills analysis than students in other categories. Adaptive type is ranked second. Nearly half of students belonged to this category. Solitary type tended to be more altruistic and compassionate, while outgoing type was sociable and seeking compassion from others. Non-adaptive students had worst scores in all social skills. The ratio of 2-years students in solitary category was higher that the ratio of 4-years students. This trend was reversed in outgoing category. We also found that gender had big influence on social skills. There was more male than female in high functional type, while female students had higher ratio in solitary type. In non-adaptive type, the ratio of female was also higher. In conclusion, the social skills of collegecould be classified into 5 categories. Both educational levels and gender had great influence on social skills.
