In ancient times, Jia(豭), Gu(牯), Jia(麚) and Gu(牯) were homologous. These words were applied to articles or stories of Chu(楚) area from the pre-Qin dynasty to the Tang dynasty. The unearthed Bamboo and Silk from Chu(楚) area had a lot of examples to prove the name of male animals, which had a Chinese character Gu(牯) component, were similar to Gu(牯) pronunciation. Jia(豭) were widely used in the county local chronicles in Chu(楚) area. Nowadays, all the places named Gu(牯) are distributed in the southern region of China, which inherit from ancient Chu(牯) dialects. Some words have meaning of male in some austral minority languages. These words and Jia(豭), Gu(牯) in ancient times were homologous. Therefore, Jia(豭) and Gu(牯) are ancient Chu(楚) dialects.
