点睛之笔——评小说《紫色》白人角色设计

摘　　要：美国黑人女作家爱丽丝·沃克的小说《紫色》是一部黑人女性小说,以黑人女性的生活为主线,对白人的描述不多。然而,其中的白人角色设计却升华了小说的主题,起到了画龙点睛的作用。本文从三个层面论述白人角色设计的点睛作用:第一,在女主人公西莉生父及继父的遭遇中,设计了迫害黑人的白人民众角色,反映了种族问题的民间矛盾;第二,在描述美国黑人女性的生活时,设计了白人市长及其夫人的角色,将种族问题上升到了国家层面;第三,在非洲黑人的生活中,设计了蛮横霸道的英国白人角色,揭示了种族问题的世界性。小说中白人角色设计可谓是整个小说的点睛之笔。The novel Purple by Alice Walker,a black American woman writer,is a black female novel.The description of the black people is based on the life of black women,with few words on white character.However,the white character design has upgraded the theme of the novel and become the finshing touch.This paper,from three aspects,discusses the punchline function of the white character design： firstly,in the encounter of the heroine Celie＇s father and stepfather,the persecution of black by white people reflects the racial folk contradiction; secondly,in the description of the black women＇s life,the design of the white mayor and his wife grades up the racial problem to the national level; third,in African life,the design of despotic white British reveals the world ethnic issues.White character design in this novel purple is the punchline.
