In order to study the survival rate, weight gain, specific growth rate, feeding rate and food conversion rate of young Salmon trutta , and discuss the compensation mechanism, the young Salmon truttathe with average body weight of (5.48±0.46) g were starved for 7, 14, 21 and 28 days and refed in a rectangular horizontal tank with water temperature of 14-16℃ and dissolved oxygen of 6.5-8.5 mg/L. The experiment lasted for 49 d The results showed that, and the survival rate of fry was 98.5 %, the rate of weight gain of group Ⅰ was significantly higher than that of other groups (P〈 0.05) ; the specific growth rate of group Ⅱ and group Ⅲ was significantly higher than that of other groups (P〈0.05), but there was no significant difference between group Ⅰ, group Ⅳ and group Ⅴ (P〉0.05) ; the food intake rate was not different significantly between group Ⅰ, group Ⅱ and group Ⅴ (P〉0.05), but significantly higher than that of group Ⅲ and group 4 (P〈0.05) ; the feed con- version rate was the highest in group Ⅲ, and was 53.67%+1.29%, which was significantly higher than that in other groups (P〈0.05). These results declared the body weight of the starved 7 d, 14 d, and the 21 d group were lower than that of the control group, which belonged to the partly compensatory growth type. The ability to partially compensate for growth was achieved by increasing feeding rates and decreasing standard metabolism when juveniles were starved. However, the body weight in the starved 28 d group showed a negative growth, which was not compensated by the growth type. The reason might be that the starvation time was too long, and the recovery time was too short.
