Objective To evaluate the efficacy of lower face lift with absorbable barbed sutures. Methods From Mar 2016 to Jan 2017, 35 cases with lower face sagging were treated with face lift with absorbable barbed sutures. The absorbable barbed sutures were embedded in the subcutaneous layer and shallow layer of the SMAS. The clinical results were observed, and patients' satisfaction and complications were noted. Results Of the 35 total patients, 16 cases had significant results. Fifteen cases had marginal results. Three cases were less effective and one had no observable results. The rate of effectiveness was 88.6%. Two patients had mild bruises on the cheeks which disappeared in one week without special treatment. There was a hematoma on the cheeks for one case during the operation with obvious bruises postoperatively. This patient recovered well after 2 weeks. No other serious complications occurred. Conclusion Face lift using absorbable barbed sutures is an effective, safe method for performing lower face lift. This method is time saving and results in less trauma and less pain in patients, quick recovery after operation, relatively long-lasting results, and is easy for patients to accept. It should be considered for clinical application.
