As two of the most important French thinkers and literary critics in the 20th century, Maurice Blanchot and Jacques Rancière have presented, respectively, their unique views on the nature of literature. Their thoughts on the death of the author, literary space, death and silence as well as other issues are theoretically interwoven. From Blanchot to Rancière, discourses on literature seem to have travelled from the "future" to the "spiritual" world. Their thoughts have inspired discussions of the illusive and paradoxical nature of "literature," and they have illuminated the profound historical necessity and dialectical connections between distinctive and associative understandings of literature.
